RAG Presents: Two documentary films concerning the legalisation of abortion

Two filmakers are on tour with films they have made on the subject of abortion. The first one is called The Coat Hanger Project and the second is Abortion Democracy: Poland/South Africa.

The film makers will be there to talk about the films so there should be some great discussion afterwards.

Abortion Democracy: Poland/South Africa
This documentary feature explores and contrasts changes in Poland and South Africa regarding abortion laws and their impact on the lives of women. In the 90s, Poland banned abortion due to the increasing influence of the Catholic Church after the fall of communism; around the same time South Africa legalized it, reforming the health system after the fall of apartheid. The film reveals how the legal status of women is a direct result of the silencing or empowering of women’s voices.
The Coat Hanger Project
A documentary about the history of abortion in the US, recent attempts to ban abortion there, and the fight to keep the right to choose.
